From May 22 to 23, 2026, the 61st Students and 41st Staff and Faculty Track and Field Meet of Beijing Jiaotong University was grandly held at the Beijing Campus’ Sports-field. The BJTU Weihai team of 22 student athletes participated in almost all events.

This year’s games coincided with several significant milestones: the 130th anniversary of Beijing Jiaotong University, the 11th year of Weihai Campus’ operation, and the 10th anniversary of the Lancaster University College at BJTU. The Weihai Campus athletes delivered an exceptional performance, presenting a proud tribute to the University’s birthday and to the Campus’ developmental milestones.

Braving rain on Day 1, fighting harder on Day 2
On the track, the athletes showcased the spirit of Weihai Campus students — determined, fearless, and full of youthful energy.

The morning of the first day began with rain. Undeterred, the Weihai team gave their all in every event, demonstrating true grit. Due to the bad weather, the afternoon session was postponed. On the second day, the schedule was compressed, and the pace of competition intensified, placing higher demands on athletes’ physical and mental strength.
Despite these challenges, the Weihai Campus athletes held their ground, fought tenaciously, and achieved outstanding results in multiple events — ultimately making history:
Women’s Group A Team – 1st place
Men’s Group A Team – 1st place
Mixed Group A Team – 3rd place
For the first time ever, Weihai Campus won both the men’s and women’s Group A team titles at the same university track and field meet — a historic best. This breakthrough is the result of the collective efforts of coaches, athletes, and support staff, and it serves as a vivid testament to Weihai Campus’ long‑standing commitment to holistic education (“Five‑Educations‑in‑Parallel”).
Faculty judges ensure fair play, earning praise
Meanwhile, physical education faculty members from Weihai Campus actively took part in officiating the events. With a rigorous, professional, and impartial attitude, they helped ensure a fair, just, and well‑organized competition, winning acclaim from the organizing committee and all participating teams. They were a “Weihai highlight” in their own right on the sidelines.

Building on success
Sport is an integral part of education and a key pathway to students’ holistic development. This historic breakthrough is not only a strong endorsement of the achievements of Weihai Campus’s nationwide fitness programmes and physical education reforms but also a shining example of the unity, perseverance, and pursuit of excellence that characterise the entire campus community.

Weihai Campus will take this opportunity to further deepen physical education reform, expand Sunshine Sports activities, and foster a campus sports culture in which “everyone participates and exercises daily.” The Campus will continue to develop distinctive programmes such as Dragon and Lion dance and Dragon Boat racing, guiding students to find joy in sports, build stronger bodies, develop sound character, and temper their will. In doing so, Weihai Campus strives to cultivate well‑rounded socialist builders and successors with moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labour education, and to contribute Weihai’s strength to the University’s “Double First‑Class” construction and high‑quality development during the 15th Five‑Year Plan period.
