IT Centre of BJTU, Weihai was prepared in May 2014. At the beginning of the construction, after full investigation and research, IT Centre should be responsible for all the information related work in the campus by drawing lessons from the construction experience of foreign cooperative universities and combining with the actual situation of the campus. The main scope of work includes the construction and operation of campus network, all-purpose card, data centre and all information systems, the guarantee of network security and data security, the construction and maintenance of all weak current pipe network systems and communication infrastructure in the campus. IT Centre should be also in charge of the construction and maintenance of office computers, printers and related information equipment hardware and software in the campus, as well as multimedia classrooms, radio and television, remote conferences, construction and technical support of video surveillance and fixed telephone. IT Centre would provide sufficient technical guarantee for BJTU to be in line with the international standards and strive for "double first-class".

The campus has achieved full coverage of high-speed wireless network, opened a dedicated international Internet line from Weihai to Lancaster, U.K. With the help of foreign course platforms such as Moodle, Mycourses, and video conferencing software such as Enterprise WeChat, Tencent Conference, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc., the campus provides rich online teaching resources and high-quality remote interactive experience. Adopting the exact same mailbox, MIS and various information system platforms as the Beijing Campus, teachers and students on the campus can conveniently enjoy all kinds of informatisation resources of Beijing Jiaotong University. Through the campus card, the campus consumption, access control, borrowing, printing, reservation and many other functions can be achieved, truly realising ‘one card in hand, walk around the campus!’
While doing a good job in the basic work, the information centre upholds the campus ‘service education’ concept, and actively explores the mode of cooperation between schools and enterprises to help students training. Through the co-construction of H3C network university and other forms, the introduction of enterprise training courses to help students accelerate the transformation of knowledge to ability. Through the cooperation with IT enterprises such as Ali, Huasan, Cisco, etc., we strive for internship opportunities for students, which lays a solid foundation for their employment and further study.
2. Division of labour and responsibilities of each office
The Information Centre consists of four sections, namely, IT Infrastructure Room, Academic Support Room, Information System Room, and IT Service and Cooperation Room, and the division of labour and responsibilities of each section are as follows:
2.1 IT Infrastructure Room
IT infrastructure refers to the campus data centre, servers, storage, cloud platform, operating system, database, computer network, information pipe network and cable resources, weak electricity equipment room & weak electricity well, monitoring and security, fixed telephone, wireless alarm, etc.. It provides stable, reliable and safe IT services for the work, study, teaching, research and life of teachers and students in the campus.
2.2 Academic Support Room
The Academic Support Room is mainly responsible for the construction and operation and maintenance of multimedia classrooms, smart classrooms, broadcasting, television, video conferencing and other facilities and systems on Weihai Campus, as well as assisting the teaching management department to do a good job in the technical support of offline and online exams. It also provides technical support for daily teaching, and provides modern educational technology training for Chinese and foreign teachers, so as to help teaching with information technology and improve the quality of teaching.
2.3 Information System Room
The Information System Office is responsible for the construction, operation and management of the campus information system and related software, providing technical support for the informatisation of teaching and research, campus management and life services. It promotes the coordinated development of campus information systems in accordance with the development idea of ‘integration of public information system platforms and efficient integration of other business systems’, creating favourable conditions for multi-campus integration, data exchange and information interoperability under the mode of Chinese-foreign cooperative education.
2.4 IT Service and Cooperation Office
IT Service and Cooperation Room is responsible for the communication and coordination of information technology-related issues among various departments on campus, as well as the construction and operation and maintenance of the campus card system. It provides comprehensive and detailed IT services for all teachers and students of the campus as well as off-campus personnel, including but not limited to network, one-card, telephone, information system, PC and printer hardware troubleshooting and maintenance, PC desktop maintenance, etc. It is also responsible for the recruitment of work-study students in the Information Centre.
