On Dec 18,the Academic Committee Meeting of Lancaster University College at Beijing Jiaotong University (LUC) was successfully held. The meeting held comprehensive deliberations and in-depth discussions on a variety of topics,and was conducted synchronously in three venues of Beijing, Weihai, and Lancaster.
On the afternoon of December 18th, the first meeting of the Academic Committee of Lancaster University College at Beijing Jiaotong University for the 2024-2025 academic year was successfully held. Attending as Chinese members were:
1.Bai Yanlei, Vice dean of Weihai International College of Beijing Jiaotong University,
2.Xiao Guiping, Vice dean of Weihai International College of Beijing Jiaotong University
3.Zhou Yaodong, Vice Dean of the School of Economics and Management,
4.And other representatives from relevant departments of Beijing Jiaotong University.
On the British side, the attendees included:
David Higgitt, Academic Dean of Lancaster University College,
Christine Mortimer, Deputy Academic Dean,
John Fowler, Director of the English Teaching and Research Section,
Stephen Bulman, Head of Academic Standards at Lancaster University,
And representatives from relevant departments of Lancaster University.
The meeting was chaired by David Higgitt, Chair of the Academic Committee, with academic and foreign affairs staff from both the Chinese and British sides present as observers.


The meeting addressed several key topics, including the annual evaluation reports of undergraduate and postgraduate programs under the joint educational initiative, the strategic deepening of teaching collaboration between Beijing Jiaotong University and Lancaster University, the impact of postgraduate entrance examinations on the academic performance of senior students, the transformation plan for Lancaster University's teaching framework and curriculum system, and matters related to English language teaching and various specialized programs. In light of these topics, the members of the Academic Committee engaged in in-depth discussions on optimizing the curriculum of the joint programs to help students balance exam preparation with their academic studies, as well as on issues concerning academic integrity and the application methods and boundaries of artificial intelligence in teaching, research, and assessment.


This meeting was held with physical venues at Beijing Jiaotong University. both in Beijing campus and Weihai Campus, while Lancaster University participated via an online platform. The Undergraduate School of Beijing Jiaotong University, the Information Center, the Weihai Campus Information Center, and Lancaster University's Information Center provided the necessary technical support and venue services to ensure the smooth conduct of the meeting.
