On May 26, BJTU Weihai Campus held the first session of "Intangible Cultural Heritage Dough Art: Huabobo Workshop". The event invited inheritor Song Xiuchun to provide on-site guidance and demonstration.

Ms. Song gave a detailed introduction to the history, cultural connotations and production techniques of Huabobo. As a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage of Shandong Province, Jiaodong Huabobo is a quintessential example of northern Chinese flour craftsmanship, embodying distinctive Jiaodong folk customs and auspicious symbolism. The vivid lecture helped students gain a basic understanding of this traditional craft.
Later, Ms. Song demonstrated how to make two popular themed Huabobo: sunflowers and koi fish. The full-blooming sunflower symbolizes a positive and aspirational spirit, while the lively koi stands for the wish of achieving great success. She explained key skills while crafting, and students watched attentively, fully immersed in the unique charm of the time-honored dough art.

During the hands-on session, students kneaded dough, rolled out wrappers and shaped their own creations with full creativity, with Ms. Song offering one-on-one guidance. The venue was filled with a warm and lively atmosphere, allowing students to truly experience the dedication and warmth behind the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage.

After the shaping work was done, staff collected all the dough creations for proofing and steaming. When the finished Huabobo were ready, students took home their handmade works.

This activity was a meaningful effort to promote intangible cultural heritage and carry forward fine traditional Chinese culture. Going forward, Weihai Campus will continue to launch diverse and enriching cultural experience activities. These initiatives will help young students foster a deep sense of patriotism and strengthen their cultural confidence.
