BJTU Weihai Held the 5th Session of College English Corner

On Mar 27, Tianyou College of BJTU Weihai Campus held the fifth session of the College English Corner as scheduled. Mr. Patrick Talaczek, from the Office of English Study and Skills of Lancaster University, was invited as the speaker and provided English guidance.

Hosted under the theme "Nezha Returns: Shared Insights and Expansive Dialogues," this edition of the College English Corner blended cinematic analysis with cultural introspection through three dynamic modules: a dubbing workshop, thematic debates, and open discussions.
The event kicked off with an English-subtitled trailer of Nezha Returns, followed by a concise plot recap in English. Participants immersed themselves in a lively dubbing workshop, rehearsing and performing selected scenes from the film in English. Aspiring voice actors received real-time feedback from instructor Patrick, who emphasized vocal expression and emotional authenticity.

A spirited debate unfolded around the central question: "Is Nezha's rebellion against fate an act of heroic defiance or youthful recklessness?" Students dissected the mythological character’s motivations through the lens of his age and social identity, sparking nuanced interpretations of traditional Chinese storytelling.
During free discussions, participants examined evolving portrayals of Nezha across eras. Ideas flourished on modernizing folklore—proposals included intertwining classic narratives with contemporary values and relatable life vignettes to bridge cultural heritage with modern audiences. Conversations naturally extended to personal experiences, with students reflecting on balancing individual ambitions with familial expectations, sharing coping strategies for societal pressures.

As a flagship initiative fostering English proficiency and cross-cultural exchange, the College English Corner will continue to curate transformative dialogues. Students are invited to join this journey of linguistic growth and collective enlightenment.
