On July 7th, 42 students and teachers from Beijing Jiaotong University, Weihai Campus arrived in Lancaster, for the 2024 Lancaster University Summer School Program. They departed from Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, etc. The participating students from seven different majors within the campus, joined peers from other universitiesand countries in four distinct programs: International Cultural Experience (ICE), Environment and Sustainability, International Commercial Law, and Films. Additionally, the students have been assigned to four colleges: Bowland, Cartmel, Grizedale, and Lonsdale, where they will engage in group discussions and activities based on their respective colleges.
Upon arriving at Lancaster University, the students quickly explored the entire campus. To help them better integrate into the summer school life, the university and the student ambassador team organized a variety of activities. These included campus tours, “meet your tutor”, welcome party, and the College Cup. Additionally, there were optional activities such as indoor games and “Crafts night”. Through these activities, the students could explore the layout of British architecture while swiftly making friendswith thosefrom home and abroad, experiencing a rich cultural atmosphere.
The summer school courses consist of lectures, group seminars, and workshops. Each segment, tailored to the different program contents, features professional and engaging instruction and guidance from teachers of various departments. In addition to their studies and exchanges, students have the option to visit the Lancaster Castle, York, and the Lake District. These excursions allow them to explore diverse landscapes and experience distinct historical and cultural settings.
After the first week of cultural exploration and team-building activities, students moved into the second and third weeks of course learning and cultural exchange, adapting and exploring along the way. The main activities during these two weeks included project-based learning, free exploration of London, and a final presentation. The project-based learning method was similar to that of the first week. In the end, 41 students from Beijing Jiaotong University, Weihai campus and friendly partners from other schools all received their completion certificates.
7月7日，北京交通大学威海校区42位师生分别从北京、上海、香港等地出发，顺利抵达兰卡斯特，参加2024年兰卡斯特大学的暑期学校项目。来自校区七个专业的同学与来自其他学校和国家的同学们一起，分别参加了International Cultural Experience（ICE，国际文化体验），Environment and Sustainability（环境与可持续性），International Commercial Law（国际商法）和Films（电影制作）四个项目。与此同时，本期暑校的同学们被分入Bowland, Cartmel, Grizedale, Lonsdale四个书院，并将基于各自的书院展开小组研讨和课余活动。
初次来到兰卡斯特大学，在兴奋之余，同学们很快就把校园逛了个遍。为帮助同学们更好的融入暑校生活，学校和学生大使团队为同学们安排了校园游览、导师组见面、欢迎派对、书院杯等日常行程和室内游戏、手工制作等选择性活动。在参与中，同学们能够一边游览英式建筑的结构布局，一边与海内外的朋友们迅速相识，感受多元的文化氛围。
暑校的课程学习以讲座、小组研讨和工作坊组成，针对不同的项目内容，每一部分都有来自不同学院的老师为同学们提供专业、有趣的课程和指导。
在学习交流之余，同学们可以选择性的参观兰卡斯特城堡、约克市和湖区，游览不一样的美景，体验不一样的历史文化。
第一周不仅为同学们拓宽视野、增长见识，也帮助同学们积累了专业知识，为后续的暑校之旅奠定了良好的基础。
经过第一周的文化初探和团队建设活动，同学们在适应和探索中走入了第二周和第三周的课程学习与文化交流。这两周主要的活动内容有分项目学习、伦敦自由行以及结课presentation。其中，分项目学习的活动方式与第一周相似。最终，41位交大的同学和来自其他学校的友好伙伴们一同拿到了结业证书。
1. ICE（International Cultural Experience）
ICE项目侧重于了解英国的文化与社会，从社会历史和文化角度出发，解读当下英国呈现出的某些特点或问题。通过分主题的讲座，和配套的小组研讨及工作坊，同学们能够从多角度感受英国的历史与当下。最后，基于研讨小组成员间的组队，同学们能够以小组为单位，针对某个或某些英国特定领域的特点进行深入探究，并通过海报与presentation相结合的方式向项目的其他同学阐述本组的观点。
2. Environment and Sustainability
环境与可持续项目以“理解、尊重和管理环境”为主题。通过互动讲座、实验室实践和野外考察等方式，以学习可持续、生态保护、垃圾处理、土壤和食品安全等相关专业知识。深入到田间、农场、工厂等地进行现场勘查，在农场检测土壤成分，探访垃圾处理厂，了解当地土地质量、学习循环经济在畜牧业中的实现、了解气候变化对农作物生长的影响等。
3. Film
电影项目旨在为学生提供深入了解电影制作、电影理论和电影产业的机会。学生将有机会与行业从业者面对面交流，拓展人脉资源。学生们会从电影制作的方方面面出发，对导演、拍摄、剪辑等能力进行针对性培训。参与项目的同学们基于小组，需要在三周的时间内自导、自演，完成一部纪录短片。
7月28日上午，所有同学以小组的形式进行了结业汇报展示，并完成了相关奖项的评选。
当日下午，兰卡斯特大学的工作人员为参加暑期项目的全体学生颁发结业证书，祝贺同学们顺利完成本次暑期学校的学习。
与交大同学们一同参加暑期学校的还有来自华南师范大学、北京物资学院、北方工业大学、UIC、日本长崎大学、澳大利亚迪肯大学、布鲁塞尔自由大学、巴黎第三大学等学校的老师和同学们。
课余活动：
在忙碌的学习间隙，暑期学校还举办形式各样的晚间娱乐活动，球类、棋牌、才艺秀。校区同学积极参与，在活动中勇于参与、积极交流，结识了许多来自其他学校的伙伴。在第二周周末，同学们也可以选择性的前往利物浦和曼彻斯特，游览、了解两座底蕴丰富的城市。
结束了两周忙碌的课程和文化学习之后，暑期学校的所有学生一同前往英国伦敦，开展为期三天的伦敦行。同学们可以根据喜好自行安排行程，如游览白金汉宫、大本钟、大英博物馆、英国国家美术馆、伦敦眼、伦敦塔桥、泰晤士河、格林威治天文台等著名景点，并在旅途中锻炼交流能力，打理自己。
当暑期学校的钟声缓缓响起，我们知道这段美好的时光即将结束。但在这里留下的一切——知识的积累、友情的收获、成长的足迹——都将成为我们人生中最宝贵的财富。兰卡斯特大学暑期学校不仅是一段学习的旅程，更是一次心灵的洗礼和成长的飞跃。在这里，我们学会了如何独立思考、如何团结协作、如何面对挑战并勇于超越自我。这段经历将永远镌刻在我们的记忆之中，成为我们人生旅途中一道亮丽的风景线。
